Movie Synopsis
Robin of Loxley, a nobleman residing in Nottingham, relishes a satisfying life with his beloved, Marian, until he is conscripted by the unscrupulous Sheriff of Nottingham to battle in the Third Crusade against the Saracens. After four years in exile from England, Robin grows disheartened by the Crusades when he can’t stop his leader, Guy of Gisbourne, from executing captives, including a young boy, even after the father’s desperate pleas, leading Gisbourne to send Robin back home. Upon his return to Nottingham, Robin discovers from his longtime friend Friar Tuck that the Sheriff had him declared deceased two years ago to take over Robin’s estate and riches, thereby sustaining the war effort at the behest of the corrupt Cardinal, forcing the townspeople from the city and into the coal mining town across the river. While looking into ‘the Slags’, Robin observes the peasants organizing a revolt against the oppressive government and discovers that Marian is now connected with their hopeful leader, Will Tillman. Robin is kept from reaching her by the Arab whose child he attempted to rescue. The man states his name is Yahya – which he indicates can be translated as “John” – and suggests that he and Robin should collaborate to stop the war by taking the funds collected from the people to finance the church’s conflict. Marian searches for Robin upon discovering that he is alive, but he decides not to reveal his intentions for her safety.
